GUIDE TO A GOOD QUALITY AUDIO RECORDING
At Arc Transcription & Secretarial Services we only use top quality headphones and we also have noise reduction and audio enhancement packages to help us produce the very best transcript of your audio recordings as we possibly can. However, if a recording is not high quality we may need to spend additional time listening to it or trying to enhance it and therefore you may incur additional costs.
In order to avoid this and to ensure that your transcript has few, if any inaudible or misheard words, it is in your interest to try and ensure your recording is as good as possible. We would suggest the following to help you achieve this:
1. Buy the best possible digital audio recording equipment/Dictaphone within your budget - A good quality machine may cost more, but you will benefit from enhanced recording quality, larger capacity and additional features.
2. Record your dictation in a quiet place - If you choose to record an interview in a cafe, or on the street, then the chances are that the quality of your transcript will be adversely affected. Choose a quiet location with little or no background noise for the optimum recording. (We may quote you a higher rate if there is a lot of background noise).
3. Pay attention to the location of the speakers you are recording - for example if you are recording an interview, make sure that the participant and the interviewer are at equal distances from the Dictaphone. Always consult the instructions which came with your digital voice recorder and try to follow their guidelines for maximum distance etc.
4. Use voice recording equipment designed for its purpose - If you try to record a conference using a machine designed to record dictation, then the recording is likely to be low quality and vice versa.
5. Check that you know how to operate your digital voice recorder - If you spend an hour interviewing someone and then discover your machine has been on pause for the whole time, it can be rather a frustrating experience!
